Your local floor sanders in Hall Green and Acocks Green

The interwar houses of Hall Green and Acocks Green are some of the best places in Birmingham to find original parquet. Woodblock floors in herringbone and basket weave patterns were popular in the 1930s, and many have survived under carpet in surprisingly good condition.

    Bringing old parquet back

Parquet usually needs a little work before it is sanded. Blocks come loose as old bitumen adhesive breaks down, and some may be missing where pipes or walls were moved. We lift and relay loose blocks, source matching replacements, and then sand the floor flat. Because the blocks run in different directions, parquet needs a careful sanding approach to avoid scratches across the grain.

    • An excellent job by Roy and Chris on our floors at St Anne's Church Hall in Moseley. They sanded and levelled the floor, repaired floorboards, fixed parquet blocks back down and finished it in lacquer. The difference is like night and day.

    • Our floors were in pretty bad shape after other trades had broken several boards. Roy and his son repaired, replaced and finished them and they all look great. Best of all, they took real care and did not leave a mess.
