Your local floor sanders in Handsworth

Handsworth has some of north Birmingham’s grandest older houses, particularly around Handsworth Wood and Handsworth Park, alongside streets of Victorian and Edwardian terraces. Homes of that age usually have pine or pitch pine boards, and the larger houses often have parquet or decorative hall floors too.

Older floors have often been lifted for plumbing and wiring over the years, so we start by making repairs: refixing loose boards, replacing split ones with matched timber and dealing with old nail heads. Only then do we sand, working through the grits until the floor is flat and clean, before finishing in lacquer or oil.

    • An excellent job by Roy and Chris on our floors at St Anne's Church Hall in Moseley. They sanded and levelled the floor, repaired floorboards, fixed parquet blocks back down and finished it in lacquer. The difference is like night and day.

    • Our floors were in pretty bad shape after other trades had broken several boards. Roy and his son repaired, replaced and finished them and they all look great. Best of all, they took real care and did not leave a mess.

    Frequently asked questions

    Is pitch pine worth restoring?

Absolutely. Pitch pine has a rich colour and grain, and it is very hard wearing once sanded and sealed.

Do you work on large period houses?

Yes. We can sand whole floors of a house and plan the work room by room so you can keep living there.

Can you remove old paint and varnish?

Yes. Old stain, varnish and paint all come off during the coarse sanding stage.
