A little care goes a long way
Sometimes a floor does not need sanding back to bare wood. If the finish is dull and scuffed but has not worn through to the timber, a maintenance treatment can make it look beautiful again, often in a single visit and with far less disruption.
The finishes and treatments we offer include:
- Buffing and recoating with a fresh coat of lacquer or oil
- Refreshing the floor with a coat of wood floor polish
- Chemical stripping and recoating, for build ups of old polish
- Machine polishing for halls, churches and commercial floors
Plan maintenance and avoid a full sand
Every full sand removes a little timber. Regular recoating protects the wood underneath and means the floor will need sanding far less often over its life. For busy commercial floors, schools and church halls, a planned maintenance visit once a year or so keeps floors safe, smart and protected.
Not sure what your floor needs? We will take a look and tell you honestly whether a recoat will do the job or whether it is time for a full sand.

An excellent job by Roy and Chris on our floors at St Anne's Church Hall in Moseley. They sanded and levelled the floor, repaired floorboards, fixed parquet blocks back down and finished it in lacquer. The difference is like night and day.

Our floors were in pretty bad shape after other trades had broken several boards. Roy and his son repaired, replaced and finished them and they all look great. Best of all, they took real care and did not leave a mess.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my floor needs a recoat or a full sand?
If the finish is dull or lightly scratched but the wood itself is not grey or bare, a recoat usually works. If the timber is worn, stained or damaged, it needs a sand. We will tell you which after a quick look.
How long does a buff and recoat take?
Most rooms are done in a day, and you can usually walk on the floor carefully later the same day.
How should I clean my wooden floor?
Vacuum or sweep regularly and use a damp, well wrung out microfibre mop with a cleaner made for lacquered or oiled floors. Avoid steam mops and soaking the floor.
Do you offer maintenance contracts for businesses?
Yes. We can agree regular visits for schools, churches, offices and other commercial premises.
